St. Anne, Grandmother of Jesus
What is an admirer of Jesus’ grandmother called?
Anne fan
What is your grandmother’s name? I don’t mean Grammy, Nana, GG, Oma, Mimi, or whatever you call her. I mean, what is her first name, also known as her baptismal name? Jesus has a grandmother, and according to tradition, her name is St. Anne. She is not just any grandmother but the mother of Mary, making her the grandmother of Jesus.
We do not have historical details about St. Anne’s life, yet we can confidently say that she lived a good and holy life since she was the mother of Holy Mary. According to early legend, she and her husband, Joachim, were married for a long time with no children. Their prayers were finally answered with the birth of their beautiful baby girl, Mary.
We don’t know if Jesus’ grandmother was still alive when he was born. We don’t know if St. Anne helped Mary care for Jesus or if she baked cookies for him, but we can be certain that she loves her grandson. Mary likely told Jesus stories about his grandmother and her deep love for God. Whether your grandmother is still alive or not, ask your parents or other family members who knew her to tell you stories about your grandmother.
